How can I forget the best lunch that has ever been served in all of jamaica high schools...thanks to Norval, Carlton, Miss Ena, Miss Girly and the rest of the canteen staff. I might be the only student that had ever challenged "Zach" and won.It was the year 1979 and as president of the Student Council I wanted to stage a Tea Party and Fete on the school campus. Mr.Henry and Mrs.Erskine-Jones (guidance counselor) said yes to the Tea party and no to the Fete. They said it was too dangerous to be at Bumper Hall past 9 pm. They were right but I promised there would be adequate security. They both said that no powers could catch them on campus after 9pm. After a long hard nosed negotiation they finally gave me permission to host my Fete. It was a huge success we made over 7k. Zach and Mrs Erskine -Jones stayed until about 11pm. Yes I was triumphant and Mr Henry named me the"Politician".
- Yes ...Its me Roy La Beach, 1980 grad.
My most unforgettable time at STATHS was when I was elected to be the President of Key Club I did everything possible to change the stigma that the "uptown or traditional high schools" had of us. We beat them at Debating, athletics, performance and a whole lot of other stuffs. Through this exposure I am now a confident young married woman who knows exactly what she wants out of life and where she is going. I would like to take the time to encourage young people that no matter where you go to school, if you do not have an aim or goal in life you will end up nowhere. Rise above stigmatization and strive for excellence always. - Arlene Hudson-James (class of '98)
St. Andrew Technical have some of the best teachers in the WORLD. The only issue might be the surroundings that might affect the thinking of our youths but when you step into that classroom it is something that is very different. Mrs. Christie is a very caring, fair and reputable which every student respected and MRS. CAMPBELL my favorite administrator was an outstanding force that balanced Mrs. Christie. With me, she held no punches, spoke the reality of life & education and my love & respect will always be with her. Notwithstanding we all gave a little trouble and we were teens so puppy love & all that jazz was expected. However, memorable memories were made and I would not give that up for the world. - Thadene Gibson (class of '04)
Fondest memory: Walking through the two big gates for the final time, as a student, with tears in my eyes.
Want to say hail all the CT3 graduates. The Experiment worked. I am a Fulbright Scholar and have gone on to do great things since I left STATHS. - Dr. Everton Walters (class of '79)
I had so many wonderful memories at Staths but my most cherished memory was whenever my catering class cooked our delicious recipes, the boys knew where to find us to taste our lovely cooking. It was fun and hard work at Staths but the teachers were lovely and very caring and these memories I carry close to my heart. I went to two other high schools before Staths but in Staths I found my HOME. - Sadie-Ann Bernard (class of '93)
This ain't funny, but it is a memory I will never forget. it was 1961 myself and 6 other students somehow man-aged to irked our metal work teacher. Can't remember his name now, but he was English. He gave us detention and every engineering period we had to go out to the playing field and pick up stones and the prickly shrubs. This went on for about a month. Thanks to Michael Fray's father, he came in and spoke to Mr Holmes. We were freeded. Not a very good experience but in hindsight, we were able to play cricket and soccer a wee bit sooner. I am retired now 56 years old and seeking to give back to my beloved STATHS - Malcolm Kong-Quee
One of the uncountable memories i have of my time at STATHS, was when i was a freshman, we were making too much noise on the three story building so Mrs. Christie who was the vice principal at the time instead of standing in the sun or doing unnecessary stuff she told us to learn the school hymn/song before the end of the day and sing it in of the third and final years or ELSE! - Tio Livingston
One of my fondest memories of attending STATHS is of our late principal, Mr. "Zach" Henry. Through example, he showed me the true meaning of honour, diligence and service. May his soul rest in peace. - Rosina Mahabeer
The yearly pantomine, the drama class held each year. My favorite was "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. Another fond memory of STATHS was with a teacher name Gloria Grandison who qwas instrumental in starting a dance group. Cookery classes on Monday, hanging out with Daffodil Tulloch, Lorna Beckford, Marlene Little, Pansy Herash and Dawn Deslandes known as "Butter." - Judy Ihonde
